Compass supports scholars in foster care, caregivers, educational rights holders, and agency partners during enrollment, school transitions, records transfers, credit review, and other changes that may affect a scholar’s learning.

What Compass can help with

Our team works with scholars, caregivers, educational rights holders, and agency partners to reduce barriers and support continued progress in school.

Enrollment and records

Help with enrollment questions, missing documents, records requests, transfers, and communication with a previous school.

School stability

Support when a placement change, school transfer, or other transition may affect a scholar’s learning plan or participation.

Credit and graduation review

Review of transcripts, completed coursework, transfer credits, graduation progress, and available academic options.

Communication and coordination

Coordination with caregivers, educational rights holders, social workers, county agencies, and other approved partners.

Every scholar’s situation is different. Compass will review the circumstances and help determine the appropriate staff, process, and next step.

What happens when a scholar needs support

Compass works with the scholar, educational rights holder, caregiver, and approved agency partners to support enrollment, school stability, records, credits, and continued academic progress.

Contact the Foster and Mobile Youth Liaison

The liaison helps coordinate educational placement, enrollment, transfers, records, grades, credits, and communication with the appropriate school and agency partners.

Review enrollment and school stability

Compass will review whether the scholar is enrolling, transferring, returning as a school-of-origin scholar, or experiencing a change that may affect educational stability.

Request and review school records

The liaison and records team work with the prior or receiving school to obtain or provide academic records, grades, credits, current classes, and applicable special education or Section 504 records.

Review credits and graduation progress

For high school scholars, Compass reviews completed coursework, full or partial credits, graduation progress, and any options that may apply under the current Foster and Mobile Youth policy.

High School Support

Credit and Graduation Review

When a high school scholar transfers to Compass, staff review the scholar’s records, completed coursework, credits, and graduation progress to identify the appropriate academic path.

Completed coursework

Compass reviews coursework successfully completed at a prior public school, juvenile court school, qualifying nonpublic school or agency, or a school outside the United States.

Partial credits

When a scholar changes schools before completing a course, Compass reviews the work already completed and determines how eligible partial credit should be applied.

Graduation options

Staff review whether a qualifying scholar may be eligible for an exemption from local graduation requirements or another available pathway under the current Foster and Mobile Youth policy.

Request an individual records and graduation review

Eligibility and available options depend on the scholar’s records, transfer history, grade level, credits, and individual circumstances.
