Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools (CCS) of Los Angeles and CCS of San Diego have been selected as 2020 National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) Exceptional Virtual Charter Schools in Special Education, the highest level of recognition that a charter school can achieve through a professional association. This distinction has been bestowed upon select qualified charter schools that provide specialized special needs services and supports.
“At Compass, we work diligently to provide the highest quality of education and services to our scholars. Our Compass community embraces all those with special needs and encourages every stakeholder, from scholars to parents, to staff and beyond, to work with this incredible population of scholars.” shares J.J. Lewis, CCS Superintendent & CEO. “On behalf of our entire Compass community, we are honored to be recognized by NASET as an Exceptional Charter School in Special Education!”
This honor is presented to charter schools that meet rigorous professional criteria and have demonstrated truly exceptional dedication, commitment, and achievement in the field of special education.
“The Special Education Department at CCS is incredible. They have gone above and beyond in helping my sixth-grade scholar excel and succeed in his studies,” shares Mrs. Randi Pugh, chair of the CCS Parent Advisory Council, member of the Board of Directors, and parent representative to the El Dorado County Charter SELPA Community Advisory Committee. “Our Case Manager Mrs. Clifton is diligent in making sure that my son’s services are in place, and his Supervising Teacher, Mrs. McCaulley, is supportive and always there for us. Thank Compass for all that you have done for my son and me; I am so proud to be part of this family!”
The Special Education Department makes it a priority to serve all of our scholars’ needs and help them reach their greatest potential. CCS provides support services in a virtual environment for scholars with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). For scholars in need of Specialized Academic Instruction, our Education Specialists provide these services in a virtual format. Specialized contractors provide IEP services for speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and psychological services to provide assessment and therapy services.
“Our mission in the Special Education Department is to prepare our scholars for social-emotional and academic challenges to empower them to self-advocate, take responsibility, and instill a passion for lifelong learning in a rigorous collaborative virtual environment,” shares Barbara Johnston, Education Specialist.
