Compass Charter Schools Names Their October 2021 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Kezia B., of Victorville

“Kezia has done a great job focusing on completing work in her curriculum and completing the STAR,” shares Crystal Chavez, Elementary School Teacher. “She challenges herself to go beyond the early literacy assessment and complete the reading and math as well. Great work, Kezia!” 

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Ponyboy C., of Morango Valley

 “I am nominating Ponyboy for his enthusiasm and curiosity for learning,” shares Tanya Coe, supervising teacher. “He exemplifies the achievement ARTIC value in his strong dedication to learning and exploring his studies. Ponyboy writes creative poems about the world around him and participates in live instruction lessons with intriguing questions and excitement! In addition, he takes pride in his organization, progress and shares his knowledge of various topics from conservation about Amelia Earhart to car motors. Ponyboy is truly a great example of high achievement, which inspires us all!”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Andrew C., of Redondo Beach

“Andrew knows how to navigate through the system and follows his daily schedule,” shares Carrie Talcott, Middle School Teacher. “He is actively engaged in his curriculum and seems to enjoy the flexibility of online learning. Great work, Andrew!”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Elizabeth Y., of North Hollywood

“Elizabeth deserves to be recognized for the ARTIC value of Respect,” shares Kelli McCaulley, supervising teacher. “She attends our weekly synchronous instruction session and is always polite, engaged, and respectful of her peers. Elizabeth raises her hand when she has a question, showing respect for her teacher. I am very proud of the hard work she has demonstrated thus far, and I am looking forward to our upcoming homeroom sessions with her in attendance. Great job, Elizabeth!”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Kaylin V., of Redondo Beach

“Kaylin started his semester strong as a new scholar with a lot of self-direction,” shares Lynn Woodley, High School Teacher. “He has remained active and engaged in Homeroom and content-area Learning Labs! Excellent work, Kaylin!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Southern B.A., of Los Angeles

“Southern works hard daily on her A-G courses,” shares Melissa Ramon, supervising teacher. “She is inquisitive, kind, patient, and always willing to learn. Southern is a self-motivated scholar that focuses on the learning available in every situation. She is an excellent example of having a growth mindset!

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Katelynn M., of Bonsall

“Katelynn is a hard-working scholar,” shares Joyce Popelar, Elementary School Teacher. “She is excelling in her Accelerate Ed curriculum and continues to strive to do her best. Katelynn actively participates during our learning lab and is eager to learn. She is willing to contribute and collaborate during class and displays respect at all times. Katelynn embodies and represents each of our Compass ARTIC core values. She is a pleasure to have in my class. Keep up the wonderful work, Katelynn!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Blake B., of La Habra

“Blake is an excellent learner! He loves to show me his work in all the content areas. He is patient and polite, and I look forward to viewing the work he completes each learning period. Way to go, Blake,” share Jennifer Hall, supervising teacher. 

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Rebekah S., of San Diego

“Rebekah started with the online program at Compass this year. She has all A’s in all of her classes and participates in all her learning labs. Well done and welcome!” shares Kim Noller, Middle School Teacher. 

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Andy H., of Irvine

“Andy has been such a hard worker since the school year has begun,” shares Corey Reynoso, supervising teacher. “He is always kind and respectful during our weekly homeroom classes. Andy communicates what subjects he is enjoying and the areas in which he needs support. He tries his best always and keeps a positive mindset when working and learning. He is rising to new challenges daily!”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Alejandro P., of San Diego

“Alejandro has made exceptional strides from last year,” shares Alex Vazquez, High School Teacher. “He has been actively engaged in his content courses with great results! Excellent work Alejandro!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Alejandro G. of San Ysidro

“This is my third year getting to be Alejandro’s supervising teacher,” shares Jeanne Richardson. “I appreciate that Alejandro is respectful to me, as well as respectful of my time, and appreciative of my help. He always arrives at his meetings with me on time and is ready to work. He is always cheerful and kind. Great work, Alejandro!”

Online Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Trent Y., of San Ramon

“Trent gets up early in the morning and gets started on his work for the day,” shares Monique Grimes, Elementary School Teacher. “He always comes to class and is helpful, kind, and respectful to all scholars. We’ve done some team exercises this year, and Trent gets right to it and has great discussions with his classmates in the curriculum and during group work in labs. He is a well-rounded scholar and has shown that he can take charge of his learning. Way to go, Trent!”

Options Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Onika O., of Santa Rosa

“Onika shows up every morning to our live sessions ready to learn,” shares Katie Dickens, supervising teacher. “She is respectful, always raises her hand if she wants to say something, participates the whole time, and is always proud of her work. Thank you, Onika, for being such an amazing scholar! You deserve this Respect Award!”

Online Middle School Scholar of the Month: Aniyah T., of Martinez

“Aniyah is an excellent communicator,” shares Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher. “In Science class, she contributes ideas that relate to the lesson. During live learning labs, she listens to her peers’ ideas, welcomes others, and offers friendly suggestions. Her class participation is outstanding! Way to go, Aniyah!”

Options Middle School Scholar of the Month: Arthur B., of Santa Rosa

“Arthur dedicates himself to a job well-done,” shares Abigail Terrell, supervising teacher. “He submits high-quality and creative work that demonstrates high achievement in all areas. His enthusiasm for learning is incredible, and he puts in tremendous effort in all his work. Most recently, Arthur researched, wrote, produced, and performed an 18-minute play all about the immune system’s response to a rhinovirus!”

Online High School Scholar of the Month: Hazel K., of Walnut Creek

“Hazel is new to our online program this year,” shares Rosette Sowell, Online High School Teacher. “She has been working hard to maintain her grades with strong weekly participation in her learning labs! Awesome work, Hazel!”

Options High School Scholar of the Month: Valorie P., of Concord

“Valorie is a spectacular goal-setter who has shown an amazing amount of focus and determination while achieving her objectives,” shares Rachyl Rowden, supervising teacher. “She continues to push herself to have a comprehensive understanding of not only her coursework but also extracurricular activities and interests, such as ROTC and music. We are proud of her efforts and applaud her on her continued road to success. Way to go, Valorie!”
