Compass Charter Schools Names their
May & June
2021 Scholars of the Month

Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools is proud of its scholars and uses its Scholar of the Month program to recognize their accomplishments. The program also ties into the Compass core values of achievement, respect, teamwork, integrity, and communication. Scholars are nominated by teachers and staff for their academic excellence, work ethic, leadership skills, and virtual involvement and selected by the leadership team for the monthly honor.

Compass Charter Schools of Los Angeles (serving the counties of Los Angeles, Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura):

 May Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Cody N., of Alta Loma

Rebecca Jacobs, Supervising Teacher, shares, “Cody is a wonderful participant in connections and with his friends in workshops. He is enthusiastic and respectful. He works well with others and contributes to the group. It has been a joy to watch Cody continue to learn and grow this year!”

June Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Zooey Z., or Anaheim

“Zooey is an excellent communicator,” shares Whitney Perea, Supervising Teacher. “She tells a story in such a wonderful way! Zooey works incredibly hard. Her effort is very evident in her writing samples.”

May Middle School Scholar of the Month: Elizabeth C., of Simi Valley

Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher shares, “Elizabeth is consistently honest in her daily assignment. She stays on task independently while I’m helping others, displaying her strong sense of integrity. Elizabeth’s honest character makes her a wonderful role model for the entire class. Great work, Elizabeth!”

June Middle School Scholar of the Month: Benjamin V., of Marina Del Rey

Melissa Christner shares, “This scholar goes above and beyond in his academics and at the same time has a job as a voice-over actor. Excellent work, Benjamin!”

May High School Scholar of the Month: Leroy A., of Los Angeles

Brianna Attalla, Supervising Teacher shares, “Leroy is an incredible scholar! He is self-motivated and has an incredible work ethic. Leroy is a person of integrity and always strives for excellence. He sets up goals for himself and achieves them with a high caliber. I am so proud of his integrity and motivation!”

June High School Scholar of the Month: Riley M., of Hesperia

Shannon Davis, High School Teacher, shares, “Riley is an excellent communicator! In Spanish class, she contributes ideas that relate to the weekly objectives. During live learning labs, she listens to her peers’ ideas and offers engaging feedback. Her class participation is outstanding! During this academic year, she also developed excellent advocacy skills, reaching out to her teachers when she needs assistance with her coursework. Riley possesses positive communication skills!”

May Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Cruz E., of Carlsbad

Cynthia McGregor, Supervising Teacher shares, “Cruz has put forth excellent and authentic effort into his classes and content studies this year. He has grown so much as a reader and writer and has graciously accepted requests from me for writing samples and to listen to him read aloud! Nicely done, Cruz! Keep up the good work!”

June Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Maeve D M., of Costa Mesa

Erin Whitehead, OCLC Supervising Teacher shares, “I am nominating Maeve for Communication because she has been a great communicator. She has done presentations in class at the OCLC, and I am so proud of how she communicates what she is learning at home and in class. Great job, Maeve! We appreciate your thorough communication skills!”

May Middle School Scholar of the Month: Bianca G., of San Diego

Lacey Lehman, Middle School Teacher shares, “Bianca is an excellent scholar exhibiting all ARTIC attributes. She especially demonstrated Integrity in April during state testing. Bianca showed up for each of her testing sessions and did her best. She has maintained excellent grades throughout the semester, and April was no different. Despite the addition of state testing, Bianca remained on pace in all her classes, submitted quality work, and attended learning labs. She is a great communicator, a positive spirit, and a joy to work with. So proud to have you as a Compass scholar, Bianca. Way to go!”

June Middle School Scholar of the Month: Naomi C., of Irvine

Heather Hathaway, Supervising Teacher shares, “Naomi is an excellent communicator. I love that she can tell me so much about what she has been doing in each connection meeting! She has absolutely excelled this year! Nice job, Naomi! Congratulations on your success!”

May High School Scholar of the Month: KristiLynn E., of El Cajon

Rosette Sowell, Online High School Teacher shares, “KristiLynn exemplifies integrity in her academics and extracurricular activities. She takes rigorous courses and challenges herself. KristiLynn ensures that her academics are a priority, and she exhibits integrity in her pursuit toward excellence by being a role model to other scholars in the learning lab. KristiLynn is committed to attending college and puts forth the effort daily to succeed. KristiLynn, your integrity is evident in everything you do. We are so proud of you!”

June High School Scholar of the Month: Jazenia P., of Wildomar

Meghan Fisher, Supervising Teacher shares, “It has been such a pleasure to work with Jazenia the last couple of years. Jazenia is a dedicated scholar that always puts her best effort into her work. It is always a pleasure to talk with her. She is a great role model for her younger siblings. Great job, Jazenia! We are proud of you!”

June Elementary School Scholar of the Month: Mekhi S C., of Travis AFB

Heather Hathaway, Supervising Teacher shares, “Mekhi is a fantastic communicator! He is always eager to share with me what he has learned, and he expresses his learning with such joy! I wish every scholar of mine could see how well he communicates for a third-grader. Great work, Mekhi!”

May Middle School Scholar of the Month: Sean W., of Winters

Erica Angelo, Middle School Teacher shares, “Sean has a quiet, confident way about him that can easily go unnoticed, but he can always be counted on to do the right thing (especially when he thinks no one is looking). I appreciate Sean’s sincere and caring nature. He is a role model of integrity to his peers.”

June Middle School Scholar of the Month: Suzanne B., of Sacramento

Beth Foster, Middle School Math Teacher shares, “Suzanne is dedicated and keeps up with her work. She is self-motivated and respectful and communicates when she needs help. Her positive attitude is evident in her commitment to her work.”

May High School Scholar of the Month: Sabrina S., of Santa Rosa

Michelle Whitney, High School Teacher shares, “Sabrina is a hard-working scholar who displays our Compass ARTIC value of communication in many ways. Sabrina diligently attends connection meetings and is always ready to help and provide honest feedback to her teachers and peers. Sabrina is also sincere in how she cares about her peers and teaches as she is dependable and always has a great witty personality that makes working with her fun. Sabrina is involved in many extracurricular activities and interests that she is passionate about, including baking, art, poetry, reading, and writing.”

June High School Scholar of the Month: Abigail Azaria R. C. G., of American Canyon

Shannon Davis, High School Teacher shares, “Abigail has become an excellent self-advocator. She communicates regularly when she needs support and clarification. Abigail always returns emails and phone calls to keep her homeroom teacher abreast. She is a motivated self-starter who takes pride in her work. It is a pleasure to have Abigail as a scholar at Compass.”
