THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Compass Charter Schools is celebrating National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), starting today, Monday, February 4 through this Friday, February 8. This celebration focuses public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how scholars are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping scholars achieve school success and plan for a career.
“Our counseling team has truly earned their week of recognition,” said Debra Stephan, Director of Counseling Services. “They build special, important connections and dedicate themselves to each scholar’s success. These connections are the foundation for a positive, engaging, and successful Compass Experience.”
We recognize Compass counselors for being actively engaged in helping scholars examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; for working in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; for focusing on positive ways to enhance scholars’ social, personal, educational and career development; and working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where scholars can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves.
“The counseling team does a wonderful job honoring our mission and vision at CCS,” shared J.J. Lewis, Superintendent and CEO. “They provide individualized focus and attention to our scholars as they navigate their way through what can be a confusing and delicate time. The support they provide is essential, in many cases, for scholars to express their academic and personal needs. I extend my deepest appreciation to our entire counseling services team and invite the Compass community to join me in celebrating our counselors this week and throughout the year!
More than 100,000 school counselors nationwide will be participating in the week’s festivities. For more general information on school counseling, visit ASCA’s website, www.schoolcounselor.org.
