Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools (CCS) will present at the San Diego County School Counselors Leadership Conference this Thursday, February 15. The San Diego County Office of Education School Counselors Leadership Conference is a professional development opportunity that invites school counselors to engage with their peers and learn best practices and techniques to better serve their scholars.
Edith Cruz, CCS college and career counselor, will lead a presentation called “Streamlining your dual/concurrent enrollment program at your school.” The presentation will focus on how to streamline the process of dual/concurrent enrollment including how to establish a school and/or district policy and best practices when assisting scholars with the course enrollment process. Those who attend this presentation will have the opportunity to see the benefits of dual/concurrent enrollment for college and career readiness and how it can be used to meet the requirements of the California School Dashboard College & Career Indicator.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity to present at the San Diego County Office of Education School Counselors Leadership Conference and represent CCS,” said Cruz. “The Counseling Services Department at CCS is truly passionate about supporting scholars’ academic progress and success. CCS’ concurrent enrollment program allows high school scholars to stay on track with their academic courses while getting a head start on their post-secondary education. I am grateful for the opportunity to share how we guide and support scholars who take part in our concurrent enrollment program through this presentation.”
Gabriela Gonzalez, CCS school counselor, will lead a presentation called “Validating high school transcripts for a-g requirements.” The presentation will focus on helping school counselors understand their responsibility to ensure that a-g courses are labeled and listed accurately on scholar transcripts. The school counselors in attendance will learn where and how to validate a-g courses, especially if the courses were taken out of the scholar’s school district. Lastly, the presentation will discuss how completion of courses that meet University of California a-g course criteria can be used to partially meet the California School Dashboard College and Career Indicator.
“CCS proudly offers high school scholars the opportunity to earn a-g course credits,” said Gonzalez. “Scholars work very hard in their courses so it’s important that school counselors properly label and list a-g courses on their transcripts. I’m thankful to be part of this important process at CCS and I look forward to sharing best practices and suggestions with other school counselors at the San Diego County Office of Education School Counselors Leadership Conference.”
The conference will bring together school counselors and experts to discuss new trends, best practices and research regarding school counseling. Cruz and Gonzalez’s presentations will show how school counselors can help scholars plan and prepare for their future by properly tracking their a-g course credits and facilitating concurrent enrollment programs.
“CCS is committed to offering each scholar the support they need to achieve success,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “Our school counselors are committed to ensuring that scholars have the support they need to stay on track or get ahead in their courses. Thank you to all of our school counselors for supporting our scholars throughout their educational experience at CCS, and thank you to Edith and Gaby for presenting our great processes at the San Diego County Office of Education School Counselors Leadership Conference to their peers.”
