Thousand Oaks, CA – In a historic year that saw unprecedented changes and improvements to national charter public school policy, Compass Charter Schools (CCS), a California public charter school, is proud to celebrate National Charter Schools Week (NCSW) this week, May 7-11.
“California’s charter school movement demonstrates a commitment to providing scholars and their families high-quality educational options, flexible and innovative academic approaches and meaningful results,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We are honored to be part of California’s charter school movement and will continue to focus on our mission to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time, with our amazing team of dedicated educators”
Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that are open to all scholars. They are unique public schools created to fill a need within a community. To meet this need and foster scholar achievement, charter schools are given the flexibility to be more innovative while being held accountable for improved academic results. Many families choose to send their child to a public charter school because they are seeking a school that meets their unique needs. A 2017 nationally representative survey from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools found that enrollment in public charter schools during the 2017-18 school year increased five percent compared to the previous year.
CCS is a virtual independent study charter school serving scholars in grades TK-12. CCS is dedicated to offering scholars throughout California access to quality online and homeschool educational programs to meet their busy schedules and unique needs.
“The flexibility of charter schools in general, and CCS in particular is unparalleled! Our scholars enjoy the rigorous online academic program, and the independence and versatility that it offers,” said Lisa Robotham, member of the CCS Parent Advisory Council and CCS Board of Directors. “Our children are constantly inspired by her teachers to explore and learn more. CCS continues to evolve and we are very proud to be part of the CCS family!”
NCSW is a time to celebrate the importance of public charter schools and recognize their contribution to improving educational opportunities for scholars and their families across the country. During NCSW, CCS will present stories on their social media accounts from teachers, staff, scholars and their families about their experiences as members of a charter school. CCS will also host Parent Town Halls with the CEO, two Coffee with Compass events, and a special field trip to Petco Park to cheer on the San Diego Padres to celebrate NCSW with scholars and their families.
