Thousand Oaks, CA – In a record-breaking year that saw national charter public school enrollment surpass 3 million scholars for the first time, Compass Charter Schools (CCS), a California public charter school, is proud to celebrate National Charter Schools Week (NCSW), May 1-5.
“California’s charter school movement demonstrates a commitment to providing scholars and their families high-quality educational options, innovative academic approaches and meaningful results,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We are honored to be part of California’s charter school movement and will continue our mission to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time.”
Charter schools are unique public schools created to fill a need within a community. To meet this need and foster scholar achievement, charter schools are given the flexibility to be more innovative while being held accountable for improved scholar outcomes. Many families choose to send their child to a public charter school because they are seeking a school that meets their unique needs. A 2016 nationally representative survey from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools found that parental support for charter schools is strong across the country.
“The flexibility of charter schools in general, and CCS in particular, is unrivaled! Our scholar enjoys the rigorous online academic program, and the independence and versatility that it offers,” said Therese Christopher, member of the CCS Parent Advisory Council. “She is constantly inspired by her teachers to explore and learn more. CCS continues to evolve and we are very proud to be part of the CCS family!”
NCSW is a time to celebrate the importance of public charter schools and recognize their contribution to improving educational opportunities for scholars and their families across the country. During NCSW, CCS will present stories on their social media accounts from teachers, staff, scholars and their families about their experiences as members of a charter school. CCS will also host a special field trip at the San Diego Padres stadium to celebrate NCSW with scholars and their families.
