Thousand Oaks, CA – Compass Charter Schools (CCS) announced scholar Antonio “J’Len” W., an eighth-grade scholar at CCS of San Diego, as the winner of its School Spirit Song Contest. During September, all of CCS’ scholars were invited to write lyrics and make music to create CCS’ new school spirit song. Then, in October, scholars, parents, and staff were presented with all of the entries and invited to vote for the winning song.
“I am amazed at the fact that I won the spirit song contest and I’m very grateful for my family, friends, and community [for] supporting me in my journey,” said J’Len. “I’m super proud of myself for creating the track and seeing people enjoy my music! It makes me super happy! This is the first time I actually won a contest at any school, so it’s a big deal to me! I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
J’Len composed original lyrics and music to create “The Spirit of C.O.M.P.A.S.S,” the song that earned the most votes and is now CCS’ new school spirit song. The winning song celebrates CCS’ mission, vision and core values. To recognize his winning song, J’Len will receive a ‘Proud Scholar’ t-shirt and a special mention in the upcoming school newsletter.
“Congratulations to J’Len for being named the winner of our School Spirit Song Contest,” said J.J. Lewis, CCS President & CEO. “We challenged all of our scholars to create a song that captured our school spirit and community. J’Len met that challenge and has a done an amazing job creating a custom song that embodies our school’s purpose with original lyrics and music. Thank you to all of the scholars who created songs and entered our School Spirit Song Contest. I know I am speaking for all of our Compass community when I share that we are so proud of your creativity and hard work.”
CCS is proud of all the participating scholars for sharing their spirit songs and for voting for the winning song. CCS continues to offer scholars the opportunity to play a leading role in their school community and encourages scholars to express their creativity and share their school spirit.
