Celebrating Classified School Employees Week

By May 24, 2017 July 12th, 2017 Blog

Classified school employees are the everyday heroes who provide invaluable support to scholars and their families behind the scenes.Their contributions and hard work keep schools running smoothly, which ultimately improves the educational opportunities for scholars. This week Compass Charter Schools (CCS) is celebrating our classified employees for their dedication to supporting scholars’ academic success.

To honor our classified school employees, we’re shining the spotlight on two wonderful staff members and their experiences at CCS:

Lisalynn Pascua, Finance Clerk
I appreciate the Compass family because we are all interdependent of each other. I am from Hawaii and our key values are about Ohana(family). We have a saying — “No one gets left behind.” I was also raised near large military bases in Hawaii, which also gave me a strong sense of teamwork.

I am passionate about my work and I enjoy the responsibilities I have in my position. I appreciate everyone that I work with, and I am thankful that I can look to my co-workers for guidance and support to gain a better understanding of our school processes and culture. Also, I am thankful that I can use my accounting experience and expertise to support and grow our school. I am proud that I can adapt and adjust our processes to meet the finance department’s goals and overall school goals. It’s rewarding to know that my efforts improve the services and opportunities for our scholars, families, and staff.

Compass Charter Schools is a wonderful program that encourages its staff to succeed, just as it encourages and supports our scholars to succeed. I feel supported, appreciated and proud! Two thumbs up!

Jessica Franco, Information Services Manager
CCS offers an innovative educational model for scholars throughout California. This unique establishment is home to over 100 staff members who have the fortuity to touch the lives of children and young adults from the comfort of their own homes. Although I am not an educator, I absolutely value my position with CCS and the notion that I am supporting the endeavors of hundreds of scholars and their families. Personally, I enjoy being part of something that is designed to help others succeed.

My tenure with CCS began three years ago during a time of development and growth. I started as the Enrollment Coordinator and then transitioned into my current position as Information Services Manager. While working from the main office in Thousand Oaks, I’ve had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with many of our families. One of the most rewarding moments was when I personally assisted a family in completing the re-enrollment process. The parent visited our office feeling apprehensive and worried. I was able to sit with her and walk her through the system. In a matter of minutes her stress transformed into excitement for her daughter who would be continuing her education with CCS. She was extremely appreciative and expressed that she felt “heard” rather than feeling “like another number.” At the time, I didn’t think much of her comment, but now as I reflect, I realize that I know exactly what she meant.

Sometimes in the workplace, employees can experience difficulty when expressing concerns, questions, or even when attempting to contribute. That is not the case here at CCS, which implements an open door policy. Compass has created a culture for its scholars, teachers, and staff alike where communication is an open facet. We feel cared for, understood, and it is clear that we all play an important role. As we close out this school year, I reflect on all off the strides made within my department and organization-wide. I look forward to all of the positive changes heading in our direction and to many more success stories from our scholars. I am a proud CCS staff member!
