Welcome Back, Compass Family, and Happy 2021!
We venture into this new year with fresh anticipation and excitement of only going upward from here! In thinking about anticipation and excitement, I invite you to share the one word that you have chosen for this new year. Please share on social media @CompassCs with #CompassOneWord. The word that I have chosen is “focus,” I continually strive to set the highest standards for Compass and myself as I focus on leading this exceptional family of public charter schools.
2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Yet it was a year of coming together to face our challenges, be part of continual growth, and reflect on where we are and where we are, together, as a Compass family. I am so proud of our Compass family, who worked together with our scholars, parents, and staff to adapt, grow, and thrive during the pandemic. Not only did you support one another, but you shared and showed the amazing possibilities within the personalized learning environment. I invite you to visit our Compass Newsroom to review our quarterly eNewsletters, The Compass Chronicle, as well as weekly blogs.
Moving forward through January, I would like to shift focus to our core value of teamwork. Teamwork is vital as we continue our work on our school-wide Wildly Important Goal (WIG) of 100% of our eligible scholars graduating by the end of the school year! How can you best utilize teamwork at Compass this year? At Compass, we offer many areas of support; make sure to attend your learning labs, support sessions, including English Learners Support, AVID, Scholar Support, and Scholar Success. Schedule a tutoring session, a counseling session, participate in virtual clubs and field trips, meet with your Supervising Teacher regularly, sign up for diagnostic testing, and more. Please take advantage of all that Compass has to offer and see your confidence and success soar!
Personally, I strive to create an atmosphere that promotes teamwork in all that I do at Compass. I aim to set an example for others by regularly meeting with staff, families, and our board to sincerely listen and understand their insights and develop and improve from this feedback.
I’d like to encourage scholars, learning coaches, and staff to share what teamwork means to them and why it is essential. How will you increase the teamwork at Compass going into this new year? As the great Henry Ford said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” Let’s remember this as we venture into 2021!
I wish you continued health and success in this new year, and I look forward to seeing how you will write your next chapter. Save the date for this last week of January, when we will celebrate National School Choice Week, Pennies for Patients, and The Great Kindness Challenge. Thank you to each and every one of you for all that you do to make Compass the Gold Standard in virtual and personalized education. I celebrate you!
