A Word From Our Superintendent & CEO: Reflect on Growth

Seasons Greetings!

I can hardly believe that December is upon us, and we are about to embark on our Winter Break starting at the end of the day next Friday, December 18. This has been an incredible year of growth thus far, and I want to thank each of our scholars, families, and staff for truly stepping up as leaders in the virtual and personalized learning environment during this time of uncertainty.

There is much to be proud of this year as we reflect on our growth at Compass. We have added numerous supports for our scholars and their families, such as a new curriculum to support our English Language Learners. We have added new tools and resources and have one or two more to release in the new year. We have increased our scholar workshops in a virtual format and increased scholar support options, including ‘Morning Starter’ and ‘Firebird Chats.’ We have even continued to enjoy coffee together every month, in the virtual environment. The Compass Experience has been enriched, thanks to feedback from scholars, parents, and staff, and will continue to be enhanced based on feedback from our entire Compass community.

The Winter Break is an important time to sit back and reflect on our successes and evaluate areas where we might improve. Most importantly, it is a time to cherish with family and loved ones. I invite you to reflect on Energy Bus leader Jon Gordon’s recommendation and think of one word in the new year that will motivate you forward and create growth. Gordon shares, “I stopped making New Year’s resolutions and started picking One Word for the upcoming year. No resolutions, no goals… just One Word that gives meaning, mission, passion, and purpose. One Word that will help me be my best.” What will your one word be for 2021?

There are many ways that learning coaches and families can share feedback and help us to grow and thrive as a Compass Family. Please join our bi-monthly Parent Advisory Council meetings and work with our parents to enhance and expand the Compass Experience. Encourage your scholars to attend our monthly Scholar Leadership Council meetings, where our scholar leaders share insights on the Compass Experience and ideate on where we can go next. I also invite you to share your suggestions through our Virtual Suggestion Box for Parents and Virtual Suggestion Box for Scholars. We also have our quarterly Compass Chronicle newsletter, blog posts every Wednesday, and press releases to celebrate our scholars and staff. These are just a few of the ways we work to keep communication lines open as we continue to delve into the new year.

As we wind down 2020, I offer you The Energy Bus’ Principle 4 – Fuel Your Ride with Positive Energy! As a team, how can you create an even more positive and joyful environment during this challenging time? How do you think your positive energy will affect others around you? By offering our own positivity, you can often influence others to change their negative mindset! You have the power to fuel other’s rides, too!

Have a wonderful Winter Break, and always remember that our entire team at Compass is just an email or phone call away. Thank you again for choosing Compass and being a special part of our Compass Family.
