Greetings Scholars and Families!

I am excited to share with you the first of many posts in a series called, A Word From Our CEO. Once a month, I will share my thoughts and latest experiences with you as they relate to Compass Charter Schools and the advancement of our school.

Before we get too far in this inaugural post, I wanted to officially welcome everyone to Compass Charter Schools! Our new school name, colors and mascot are here to stay, and I hope you are just as excited as I am!

I wanted to share my perspective on the idea of these changes. As you may know, our school has experienced a number of changes since I was named CEO by the Board of Directors in January 2016. We have worked together as a community to create a new mission and vision for the school, values statements, and enhancements to the curricular and extra curricular aspects to our program. The final piece of the puzzle was the name, but what to call us? After reflection, and collaboration with our staff and others, we came to Compass Charter Schools.

J.J. Lewis Quote

You see, a compass is a tool which helps guide us. We have always believed we were guiding our scholars on this educational journey, so why not call us what we are – your scholar’s compass. It made sense. And we hope you agree. Compass Charter Schools is your school of choice, which guides your scholar’s on this journey and is here to help prepare them for their future.
I am so honored to be part of the Compass Charter Schools family. I am proud of our staff for their high level of commitment to scholar success. I am grateful to our families who came and continue to come to partner with us to provide an amazing educational experience. Charter schools have a special place in our society and one we do not take lightly. There are still so many myths about charters, including ours, that need to be dispelled.

The long and short is – Compass Charter Schools is a public school, and a charter school. We receive funding from the state, and are accountable to the state, just like any other public school. We create Local Control Accountability Plans (LCAPs) and follow the same process as other public schools in soliciting feedback and input, and approving them by our Board of Directors. We post our LCAPs on our site for all of our stakeholders to see. We collect data and publish annual School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs) and share these with our Academic Affairs Committee, Board of Directors, and stakeholders, and also publish this information to our site.

We are a growing program, one who seeks to meet the unique needs of our scholars. I know virtual education is not for everyone, for those who do learn and excel in this environment, I am proud of the program we have built and continue to grow.

We are here to inspire and develop innovative, creative, self-directed learners, one scholar at a time. We are striving to create a collaborative virtual learning community, inspiring scholars to appreciate the ways in which arts and sciences nurture a curiosity for lifelong learning, and prepare scholars to take responsibility for their future success.

Welcome to Compass Charter Schools! I am humbled to be part of this journey with you.
