So, what’s the big deal about this CAASPP exam? CAASPP test results provide educators and parents with valuable information about how their scholar is progressing. Scholars must do their best when taking these tests. To reduce fear or anxiety about these tests, reassure your scholar that the results will help them understand what areas they have mastered and those that they still need to learn. At Compass, we believe in assessments. Parents, education leaders, and policymakers must know how our scholars stack up against others in the world, nation, and state.
Here are eight reasons why every high school scholar needs to take the CAASPP Exam:
#1 Universities and colleges use high school scores as evidence that scholars are ready for entry-level, credit-bearing courses and may be removed from remedial classes.
#2 “Research consistently shows scholars who enter college without the need for remediation are far more likely to complete a degree.” Tony Alpert, Smarter Balanced Executive Director
#3 “Assessments put scholars in a better position to succeed and may give a scholar, who had not previously considered college, the incentive to pursue a degree.” California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White
#4 “The tests are a valuable tool to help assess the academic areas where scholars may need additional tutoring and support, thereby giving them a head start on their path to earning a degree on time. Successful scholars are integral to the continued success of California and our nation.” California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White
#5 “Assessments cut down on wasted time and expense, and help scholars achieve educational goals on time.” California Community Colleges Chancellor Brice W. Harris
#6 “The assessment itself is a catalyst for higher-order thinking skills, which align with current and future workplace needs.” Washington Student Achievement Council Executive Director Gene Sharratt
#7 CAASPP tests are given statewide and provide an opportunity to measure the skills of all scholars against the same academic standards. The results provide information Compass can use to improve coursework.
#8 Given on-line, the tests are computer-adaptive, allowing more precise measurement of individual skills. Parents receive a written report of their scholars’ scores and can compare progress from one year to the next.
