What is online education and is it the right choice for your family? These are two popular questions we receive from scholars and families considering online education. Let’s explore what online education really means and how it can be of service to your family.
Online learning is revolutionizing the educational experience for American scholars and expanding opportunities for personalized learning and development. Traditionally, education for American scholars was limited based on factors out of their control, mainly geographic location. Scholars had no choice but to attend the school in their neighborhood, which may not have had the programs, supports or elements of safety needed for successful academic growth. Now, through online learning, scholars can access quality education to increase their productivity and overall academic success.
Why should your family consider online learning? Here are the 5 main benefits of online education for K-12 scholars:
Personalized Learning
Online education allows scholars to choose from an assortment of tools and features to accommodate their learning style and customize their educational experience. They have more choice over the pace of their learning based on personal strengths. CCS has launched a new partnership with StrongMind, a robust online curriculum provider for middle school and high school scholars, for the upcoming 2017-18 school year. The program immerses scholars in a highly intuitive virtual classroom designed to challenge and support their academic advancement. Virtual classrooms focus more on valuable content instead of busy work, plus the lessons are recorded so that scholars can revisit the lesson when needed. Online education also allows scholars to choose the right learning environment, for example their home, the public library or a coffee shop. All of these choices create a productive and personalized learning experience.
Quality Teacher-Scholar Interaction
Virtual classrooms allow teachers to offer more support to their scholars through phone calls, emails, chats, video, text messages and more. Traditional classrooms are often overcrowded and full of distractions. Through online education, teachers are much more available and easily accessible to offer scholars support. CCS utilizes Adobe Connect, which allows teachers and scholars to share their computer screen with each other and video chat to ensure accurate, meaningful learning.
Self-Directed & Independent Learning
Online education encourages scholars to be self-motivated and organized through advice from their teachers. They learn how to become critical problem-solvers and researchers. Scholars are encouraged to ask questions, test their theories, use their imaginations and to be proud of their work. In the end, they become independent, self-directed learners with self-taught skills that will last a lifetime.
Schedule Flexibility
One of the most popular benefits of online education is the ability to maintain a flexible schedule while learning. Hate mornings? No problem! Scholars can arrange their daily routine based on what works best for them. As long as you have an Internet connection, you can work from anywhere at any time. The online courses and other materials are available 24/7 so scholars can work ahead or at a time that best meets their needs without falling behind.
Varied Social Interaction
Online education allows scholars to apply their academic lessons outside of the classroom. Through online learning, they have the opportunity to participate in more field trips than traditional schools can offer. CCS offers scholars of all ages the opportunity to participate in multiple field trips each month so that they can see their academic lessons in action. These events also serve as social opportunities for scholars to engage with each other while learning. While learning, scholars develop mature social skills and are able to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. From babies to grandparents, the mailman to their teachers, scholars learn how to engage with a variety of people, not just the children in their grade level. They learn to appreciate and celebrate diversity!

It was really interesting to me when you mentioned that online learning is revolutionizing the educational experience. I would think that one of the benefits of online education is that it can allow teachers to tailor to specific needs that a student might have. It seems like a specialized education would make today’s students more successful.
